Welcome To The International Leadership & Business Internship!

Updated: Jul 19, 2023

As students from all corners of the United States and around the world gathered at Georgetown University, their arrival was filled with anticipation, excitement, and awe. The first day of the program showcased the immense motivation that these young minds possess, which will drive them as they prepare to make a meaningful impact on the world.

The International Leadership & Business Internship is a unique program that is focused on developing leadership skills whilst fostering economic growth in developing nations. The internship provides participants with an immersive hands-on experience in a real-world business environment.

After the students settled in, they were informed about the upcoming week and every opportunity they could take advantage of during the week. This week, the students will be working alongside entrepreneurs, professionals, and industry experts from Nigeria and the United States. The program is designed to provide valuable insights into business operations, leadership strategies, and cultural dynamics while positively impacting local communities in Bauchi State, Nigeria.

The students then had time to meet their roommates and make new friends while they unpacked their things. After settling in, they gathered to listen to an inspiring keynote address from Leadership Initiatives, given by the Country Director of Nigeria, Umar Muhammad. Filled with excitement, the interns prepared to plan out a small business and work with their business partners.

Following their keynote address, they had the opportunity to meet their Nigerian translator and get to know their project coordinator, asking about the translator's life, Nigerian culture, and the operational aspects of Nigerian businesses.

Afterward, students got to explore Washington D.C.’s National Mall and see historical monuments such as the Lincoln Memorial, the Reflecting Pool, and the Washington Monument. As they ventured through the city, they got a glimpse of the US capital’s vast history and culture.

Following the monument tour, the students met their Nigerian translators via Skype and had a chance to introduce themselves and meet the team members they will be working with for the week. They headed back to their dorms, ready to unwind and have a restful night's sleep, prepared for the next day. To see what our interns will be doing for the rest of the week, you can see our schedule for what's to come here!
