Welcome to the Cybersecurity and Defense Internship!

Day one of Cybersecurity started with an introduction to Leadership Initiatives and the Cybersecurity & Defense Internship. Following the students being checked into their rooms, interns were able to hear from Marshall Bailly and Marc Zavarro about Leadership Initiatives and our protocols.

Following this presentation, interns were able to take a walking tour of the monuments including the Lincoln Memorial, the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial, the Korean War Memorial, the Vietnam War Memorial, President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s Memorial, and the Washington Monument. Interns took photos throughout the tour to get to know their team and remember the event.

Upon returning to Georgetown, interns were able to hear from Keynote Speaker, Rick Kohen, the chief communications officer for the National Council of Nonprofits. Mr. Kohen introduced key cybersecurity topics including networks, encryption, and cyber defense.

The night concluded with an introduction to the internship and weekly schedule by directors Beth Cerrone, Jamie Kreider, and Marc Zavarro. Interns were divided into their business groups and were able to meet their teams. Interns then headed back to the dorms and to bed. They all prepared for the long day ahead.
