Welcome to the Advanced Medical & Public Health Internship!

The first day of the Advanced Medical & Public Health Internship was a blend of anticipation, excitement, and inspiration as interns gathered for the beginning of what promises to be a transformative journey. From insightful talks to an inspiring keynote and a tour of iconic monuments, the day was meticulously crafted to set the tone for the weeks ahead.


The evening began with a warm welcome from the program’s Executive Director, Marshall Bailly. As the interns took their seats, there was a palpable sense of eagerness in the air. Marshall’s address was both welcoming and informative, offering a comprehensive review of the program’s rules and expectations. His emphasis on professionalism, collaboration, and a commitment to learning set a clear framework for the interns.



“We are thrilled to have such a talented group of individuals with us this year,” Marshall began. “We expect each of you to be your best selves during this internship.”


Following Marshall’s address, the interns were introduced to their peers, team leads, and program directors. This introductory session was designed to foster a sense of community and collaboration from the outset. 


The highlight of the day was the keynote address for the Public Health Program, delivered by Dr. Aishatu, a renowned public health expert and advocate. Her talk was both inspiring and enlightening, offering valuable insights into the critical role of public health in improving community well-being in Nigeria.


Dr. Aishatu began her keynote by discussing the broader landscape of public health, emphasizing the importance of preventive measures, community engagement, and policy advocacy. 


She went on to share stories from her own career, highlighting the challenges and triumphs she has experienced in her efforts to improve health outcomes in underserved communities. Her passion and dedication resonated deeply with the interns. 


After the keynote, the interns had the opportunity to ask questions and engage in a lively discussion with Dr. Aishatu. This interactive session allowed them to delve deeper into specific topics and gain a better understanding of the practical aspects of public health work.



The evening was dedicated to a tour of iconic monuments, providing the interns with a broader perspective on the historical and cultural context of their work. As they visited landmarks such as the Washington Monument, the Lincoln Memorial, and the National Mall, the interns reflected on the significance of these sites and the values they represent.The tour also offered a chance for the interns to bond with one another, sharing their thoughts and aspirations as they walked through the historic sites. 



In conclusion, the first day of the Advanced Medical & Public Health Internship was a resounding success, setting a positive and inspiring tone for the program. From Marshall Bailly’s insightful address to Dr. Aishatu’s motivational keynote and the enriching tour of monuments, the day laid a strong foundation for the weeks ahead.
