Leading the Way: Dean Christopher King on Leadership in Healthcare

Recently, the interns of the Advanced Medical & Public Health Internship had the privilege of attending a captivating lecture on leadership in healthcare delivered by Dr. Christopher J. King, PhD, FACHE. As the inaugural Dean of Georgetown University School of Health, Dr. King is a nationally recognized health systems strategist and thought leader, known for his expertise in health system transformation, public health, health equity, and health professions education.


The session began with Dr. King sharing insights from his extensive career in healthcare leadership. He discussed his role at Georgetown University, where he collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to advance health and well-being through innovative research, interdisciplinary education, and transformative community engagement. Dr. King emphasized the importance of visionary leadership in establishing a world-class academic destination and the need for academic and operational excellence.


He highlighted the critical role of leaders in bridging the gap between medical care and healthcare, ensuring that systems are equitable and inclusive.



Drawing from his previous experience as the first Assistant Vice President of Community Health for MedStar Health, Dr. King shared anecdotes and lessons learned from his efforts to integrate social factors into systems of care.
