Georgetown University Welcomes Advanced Medical Neuroscience Interns

Leadership Initiatives welcomed 86 eager interns to Georgetown University for the Advanced Medical Neuroscience Internship. Among the diverse group, we are thrilled to welcome back 38 interns returning for their second summer with Leadership Initiatives.

Upon arrival, the interns checked in and met their roommates, quickly forming bonds over shared interests and the excitement for the week ahead. The atmosphere buzzed with anticipation as they settled into their new environment.

After settling in, the interns received their schedules, which included sessions with esteemed doctors who traveled specifically to work with them. Highlights among these professionals are Dr. Michael Okun, co-founder and co-director of the internationally-renowned Norman Fixel Institute for Neurological Diseases, Dr. William Casebeer, Director of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning at Riverside Research, and Dr. Diane DiEuliis, a Research Fellow at the National Defense University. The interns also met Dr. Rachel Wurzman, a neuroscientist and neuroethicist who joined the Dana Foundation in 2022 as a Neuroscience & Society Fellow. Dr. Wurzman will stay in the dorms all week to ensure interns' easy access and assist with their research proposals.

The interns also had the opportunity to explore Washington, D.C., bonding as they visited the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial and the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial in the National Mall. These outings provided a perfect setting for the interns to connect over their shared passion for Neuroscience.
