Throughout the first day at the National Security & Intelligence Internship, where the interns delved into essential topics shaping their understanding of global security challenges. The day commenced with Gina Bennet delivering a foundational lecture titled “Introduction to Intelligence.” As a retired CIA officer, her expertise provided a comprehensive overview of intelligence operations, emphasizing their critical role in safeguarding national interests.
The agenda continued with a thought-provoking presentation done by the Taiwanese Embassy on the “Diplomatic and Military Position of Taiwan.” This multi-part session offered the interns valuable insights into Taiwan’s geopolitical landscape, highlighting its strategic importance in regional security dynamics.
Later in the day, the interns had the privilege of learning from Rohin Sharma in his lecture on “Introduction to Counterintelligence and Counterterrorism.” Sharma’s expertise in these specialized fields shed light on the proactive measures employed to mitigate security threats, underscoring the complexities involved in safeguarding national and international security.
Amidst these enriching sessions, the interns engaged in reviewing their topics and program goals, and conducting a SWOT analysis under the guidance of the director, Marc. These exercises enabled us to critically assess strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats, fostering a strategic approach to learning and for their projects development.
As the day concluded, the interns enjoyed Georgetown Exploration! Places including CVS, Georgetown Cupcakes, Insomnia Cookies, Thomas Sweets, Boba Tea, and other enjoyable places. Through this day, the interns have gathered a deeper understanding and honed their skills as future leaders in the realm of national security and intelligence.
