Interns have been working extremely hard throughout the entire week for today — their chance to talk with legislators on Capitol Hill about their cases and advocate for the clients! We started off the day with another bright and early morning, and hopped on a bus right after a delicious breakfast to head to the Capitol. At the Capitol, interns met with Representatives and Senators from across the nation to deliver their prepared presentations and talk with the legislative offices about their clients. It was so inspiring to watch all the intern’s hard work pay off as they sat in the offices of Federal legislators, advocating effectively and passionately about the issues they cared about. In between meetings, the interns had a great time roaming the halls of Congress and enjoyed a guided tour of the grounds. Interns also got to take a tour of the Library of Congress, and were able to explore all that the area had to offer alongside their team leads. After the meetings, it was time to explore and enjoy our nation’s beautiful capitol!
After their busy day, interns headed back to the Georgetown Campus to finish preparing for their meetings with expert witnesses on their cases. Alongside Attorney Brandi Harden’s legal team, interns prepared the experts for questioning using the materials that they have prepared in the past few daysThe evening’s intense practice and preparation will no doubt pay off greatly tomorrow, when interns have the chance to examine witnesses in a real-world courtroom setting at American University! After finishing the sessions with attorneys and undergraduate students, the interns headed off to enjoy a well-deserved dinner and time to relax with their friends. Dinner was followed by an informational session with Leadership Initiatives directors about the LI International Internship Program.
Finally, students ended the day by working with their partners and team leads to put the finishing touches on their witness preparation for tomorrow’s examinations. It was so exciting to see all the interns working so passionately and diligently on their questions for tomorrow, and we really appreciate all the hard work that they have put in throughout this entire week. We are all looking forward to seeing all their work come to fruition tomorrow!
